Paranormal Ocean City
Ghost hunters are coming to town on two separate occasions this October to show Ocean City in a different light (or dark) and frankly we couldn’t be more, well …thrilled! Both the Ocean City Life-Saving Museum and Ripley’s Believe It or Not! are delving in to see just how haunted their locations truly are and want you to join them in their chilling endeavors. Ocean City is well known for its rich history, so we’re sure they are in for multiple encounters.
The Ocean City Life Saving Museum has been dedicated to remembering all of the water rescues that have taken place on the beach since 1891. Assistant Curator, Christine Okerblom points out that not all of these missions have had successful outcomes. She explains an incident in 1955 where a family of 6 perished in a boating accident and their bodies were brought to the large equipment room of the station to be identified by loved ones.
These days, many employees and visitors have reported sightings of apparitions, heard noises, or experienced a variety of other unworldly phenomenon. You can find specifics on the story and eerie haunted happenings here. As a result of these reports, the Dead of Night Paranormal Investigation team will be scouring the museum to experience the spirits that occupy from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. on October 28th. So head over if you dare!
Haven’t had enough? Then head to Ripley’s Believe it or Not! and join David Weatherly, Dave Sprinks, and Sean Austin better known as the Society of the Supernatural or S.O.S. for a book signing at the Odditorium from 7 to 9 p.m on Saturday, October 21st prior to their investigation. The S.O.S. will discuss previous ghost hunts that they have conducted at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Ocean City and Panama City Beach, Florida. Tickets are $10. The investigation will then be carried out and later posted online to Youtube and Periscope.
“With over 500 exhibits from around the world sitting inside a building which is around 90-years old, paranormal activity has to be present,” explains Brandon Ely, Ripley's Believe It or Not! Ocean City general manager who hopes to one day, incorporate public investigations inside of the Odditorium as well.
He is not the only one with suspicions of unworldly occurrences happening on the job. Other employees have also taken note of their own personal experiences at the workspace.
"Since we've arrived at Ripley's Ocean City, we along with some of our other employees have had experiences we cannot explain," says Audra Ely, Ripley's Believe It or Not! Ocean City group sales and marketing manager. "We have actual footage of strange happenings inside the Odditorium that we just cannot explain other than paranormal."
The S.O.S. team comes with long time experience and extensive background, so we are excited to see how or if they will be able to debunk these mysterious happenings. With millions of visitors coming to the shore each year it is no wonder that there would be supernatural energy coursing through the town. Let’s see how far we can push it this October so that we may have many stories to tell on Halloween night itself!
