International Museum Day
Saturday, May 18 is International Museum Day. Generally, the point of this holiday is to raise public awareness on museums' role today in the improvement of society, on an international level.
Worldwide, more than 40,000 museums participated in the event last year throughout more than 150 countries. Each year, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) selects a theme. 2019 will focus on "Museums as Cultural Hubs: The future of tradition."
In honor of the holiday, the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum will have an Open House all day long from 10am-5pm. Come explore the museum with free admission for everyone, and enjoy discounts in the Museum Store!
Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum
Travel back in time to see what the day-to-day lives of surfmen on rescue missions! Explore and reminisce memories of the beach town when Ocean City was first growing in popularity. The Museum has been in Ocean City for 40 years.
Not going to be in Ocean City on May 18? Don't worry! The Museum is open year round. There are changing exhibits and upcoming programs for the summer specifically for kids. The Life-Saving Museum will begin to host Aquarium feedings in June, and free summer programs start in July.
The museum is open daily from 10am-5pm from May to October, and on weekends 10am-4pm from November to April.
