SUMMARY:Writers' Group at the Art League of OC
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Join us for free monthly meetings & creative writing discussion
.\nAdvanced registration preferred. \n  \nWe will provide open discussion
s at our monthly meetings. Everyone’s\nvoice will be heard. \n  \n\nFir
st: Recently I listened to a Columbia University interview\, dated\,\nOcto
ber 18\, 2007\, featuring Dr. Oliver Sacks. I followed Dr. Sacks for\nmany
years\, and found his work most helpful\, cautiously clear\, and\nsincere
\, with humor filling many paragraphs. He was a brilliant\nneurologist\; H
e died August 30\, 2015. \nThe topic of the interview was\, “Why the Bra
in Loves Music”. \nI’ll add a comment by Dr. Sacks: \nMusic has a uniq
ue power to alter the brain in remarkable and complex\nways\, and we human
s are a musical species no less than a linguistic\none.  The fascinating
interview lasts about one-and a half-hours.\nHowever\, whether\, or not yo
u watch the Columbia Univ. interview\,\nplease share your thoughts on musi
 c’s benefits\, or lack thereof\, in\nyour life. \n  \nSecond: Childhood
memories\, what comes to mind? Write about it! \nFor me\, “I Remember M
ama” a popular CBS TV series\, presented from\n1949 through 1957\, featu
red a Norwegian immigrant family\, who lived in\nSan Francisco\, called to
me every Friday night. The episodes reflected\ntheir hard times\, along w
ith the love and dependence they shared with\none another\, Mama and Papa\
 , dedicated loving parents\, along with\nthree-children\, Katrin\, Dagmar\
, and Nels. I watched it every week! \n\n*As always\, if you’re working
on a different subject for your poetry\nor prose composition/submission\,
 share it with our group!
